Home Sweet Home is one of the oldest sayings and always evokes feelings of comfort and belonging. This door crown is painted in an appliqué and embroidery look-alike technique to reflect the sewing skills of long ago, although I am sure there are many aficionados around today. The background is painted to resemble linen.  Roses, leaves and lettering are appliquéd by means of painted  'top stitching'. There are 'French Knots' painted into the centers of the roses and they embellish the background around the leaves as well. The word "appliqué" means: ornamental work cut out from one material and applied to the surface of another, which is what I am trying to depict in this painting.
